Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage (often known as Swedish massage or remedial massage) works on the muscles to release muscular pain and tension, and ease movement in the body.
The physical manipulation of the muscles helps improve muscle condition and reduce muscular tension. Many of the techniques also calm the autonomic nervous system switching it from it's sympathetic mode (adrenalin driven, fast paced, stressed) to the parasympathetic mode (concerned with relaxation, healing and cell renewal). This provides an invaluable opportunity for the body to rest and repair itself on a deep level.
Massage therapy is useful in treating muscular tension that can arise due to postural problems, sedentary lifestyles and prolonged stress. It is very useful in the management of stress when received regularly.
Some of the benefits include:
  • Improved blood and lymph circulation
  • Reduced muscular tension and pain
  • Stress reduction
  • Useful in the management of many chronic conditions
Aromatherapy Massage
Picture
Aromatherapy massage is a deeply relaxing treatment which combines the powerful effects of massage with the health benefits of highly concentrated plant extracts known as essential oils.
Aromatherapy can be used purely to harness the relaxing powers of essential oils, to create a pleasant smelling blend, or can be used more medicinally. A great variety of conditions can benefit from the medicinal properties of the powerful essential oils (from gout to insomnia).
Some of the benefits include:
  • A luxurious and extremely relaxing experience
  • An individualised blend prepared each visit to address current needs
  • An opportunity to engage with our sense of smell, which is often one of our most underused senses but which can bring much enjoyment

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is a great treatment to support the mother-to be during changes that occur during pregnancy.
Techniques are specially adapted to accommodate the physical changes that occur during pregnancy. Every effort is made to ensure the treatment is as comfortable and relaxing as possible and pillows and bolsters are used liberally to achieve this. Particular attention is focused on the back (especially any areas of muscular tension or pain) and the legs (helping to relieve cramps and reduce fluid retention).
Pregnancy massage is particularly beneficial during the third trimester but can be enjoyed during the second and third trimester.
Some of the benefits include:
  • Eases muscular aches and pains
  • Provides an opportunity for relaxation and time for self
  • Temporary relief for heavy limbs and oedema (fluid retention)
PLEASE NOTE: Massage can not be given in the first trimester. Pregnancy massage can be started any time after 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian) Massage
Picture
Traditional Hawaiian massage, called Lomi Lomi, incorporates lots of long flowing strokes up and down the whole body, and also involves massage work on different areas of the body simultaneously. This makes it very different in style to therapeutic or aromatherapy massage and creates a unique experience in which all parts of the body feel connected.
Lomi Lomi massage is a nurturing and deeply healing massage that has been handed down through Hawaiian families for generations. It incorporates aspects of the four elements within the massage techniques and has it's own special philosophy and approach to bringing the body back into balance. It instils a deep sense of harmony, connectedness and wellbeing.
Some of the benefits include:
  • Deeply relaxing
  • Provides sense of connectedness throughout the body

Pulsing Bodywork
Pulsing is a dynamic form of bodywork, which creates a rhythmical wave like motion throughout the body. It incorporates passive stretches and a continuous rhythmic rocking throughout the treatment which is deeply soothing, yet also energising as it brings movement to the whole body. Pulsing can be especially useful for people that need to regain their confidence in their ability to move joints through their full range of movement (such as people that are limited by inhibition in their movement patterns from an old injury).
Some of the benefits include:
  • Opportunity for gentle release of muscular and emotional tension
  • Increased flexibility, and loosening of stiff joints or tight muscles
  • Deeper, easier breathing and use of breath work techniques during treatment
  • It can both relax and energise simultaneously
PLEASE NOTE: This treatment is received fully clothed. Ideally loose fitting clothing should be worn to allow maximum movement.
Warm Bamboo Massage
Warm Bamboo Massage is a great way to address muscular tension as the heat of the smoothly sculpted bamboo sticks helps muscles release more readily into relaxation, allowing deep work to be comfortably enjoyed. During the treatment heated bamboo sticks of varying lengths are applied using a range of techniques to knead the muscles, stretch the fascia and relax the body. One of the most characteristic techniques involves a rolling action along the muscle. It combines deep work with the soothing and comforting element of heat.
Some of the benefits include:
  • Added benefit gained from heat helping to relax the muscles
  • Soothing and comforting
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Facilitates deeper work where needed
