A combination of Pilates, Qi Gong and Physiotherapy based exercises
Benefits
Thorough postural and movement assessment by a chartered physiotherapist
Individually tailored exercise & movement programme
Increase muscle strength and endurance
Improve balance and co-ordination
Specific stretch & mobility work for your particular needs
Improved posture
Enjoy the calming and meditative aspects of different movement forms
What to expect
1:1 Exercise & Movement sessions are therapeutic and rehabilitative in nature and focus on addressing specific concerns or issues one may have, although they can be done for general fitness and enjoyment. The first session involves an assessment (including medical history , postural assessment and movement analysis), learning fundamental techniques including 'core engagement' aka 'centring', introducing useful breathing patterns for exercising, and considering how the different parts of our body move in relation to each other (and how we can optimise our body placement). You also go away with a few key exercises to begin at home straight away. On the second appointment we focus on your personalised exercise & movement plan, devised specifically for you based on the assessment. We can also recap any aspects of the first session that need practice or further explanation. I try to make the sessions as fun as possible. They are personalised and the exercise & movement programmes can be tailored to be done in standing, sitting or lying down (but usually involve a combination of all of the above). Sessions often utilise small equipment (such as soft ball, weighted balls, blocks, foam roller and spiky ball) but can be done without these additions if preferred.
It is best to commit to at least 3 sessions undertaken reasonably close together. The first session is primarily focused on assessment and basic principles, the second focuses on teaching the personalised exercise & movement programme (which is based on the assessment findings and areas the participant wishes to focus on) and the third session is a good opportunity to check how the exercises are being carried out and offer further advice on optimising exercises if needed. Often people enjoy attending regular sessions as part of their health regime.
Please call if you would like to know more about these sessions or to discuss your particular needs.
Duration
60 min (£70)
(the package offers I have available might be of particular interest for 1:1 Exercise & Movement sessions given it is advisable to commit to at least 3 sessions - please feel free to enquire for more details)
Miscellaneous info
I've worked with people in 1:1 Exercise & Movement sessions with a diverse range of reasons for attending, including to improve stamina & back pain in preparation for a hike to Everest base camp, to optimise strength & fitness for working in the police force, running injury rehab, and to improve strength & posture to name but a few. My previous physiotherapy work has included working in an NHS Falls Prevention Team, so I can often be found trying to sneak balance related exercises into my programmes (as maintaining good balance is vital to living well at any age, but especially as we get older).
Aromatherapy massage is a deeply relaxing treatment which combines the powerful effects of massage with the health benefits of highly concentrated plant extracts known as essential oils.
Benefits
A luxurious and extremely relaxing experience
Aromatherapy can be used in a variety of ways; to harness the medicinal powers of essential oils, or simply to create an enjoyable relaxing or uplifting smelling blend for pleasure.
A individual blend is prepared for you each visit to address your current needs at the time of the appointment
Opportunity to engage with our sense of smell, which is often an underused sense, but which can bring much enjoyment
The medical properties of essential oils are many and varied and can help with conditions as diverse as gout to insomnia!
What to expect
At the start of each aromatherapy massage we have a chat to decide what type of essential oils are most likely to be useful for you that visit. There is then an opportunity to smell various essential oils to co-create the oil blend that will be used that session.
Duration
45 min (half body massage) £50
75 min (full body massage) £80
90 min (long full body massage) £90
Miscellaneous info
Aromatherapy was the first treatment type I trained in more than 25 years ago and I still love working with essential oils. I've completed extensive additional aromatherapy training over the years including in France with Malte Hozzel (Oshadhi) and multiple online courses (each 3 months in duration) with Robert Tisserand (Tisserand Institiute).
A holistic style of body massage that is sometimes known as Swedish massage or remedial massage
Benefits
Improved blood and lymph circulation
Reduced muscular tension and pain
Stress reduction
Useful in the management of many chronic conditions
What to expect
Each massage appointment starts with finding out how you are and ascertaining what areas are in need of attention this visit. Therapeutic massage is mostly carried out using oil directly on the skin, however some techniques might be carried out that are done through the sheet that covers you.
Duration
45 min (half body) £50
60 min (full body) £70
90 min (long full body) £90
Miscellaneous info
I am an oncology trained massage therapist, please get in touch to find out more if this is relevant to you or a loved one. Oncology massage uses specially adapted gentle techniques, which are suitable for most people to receive (including during chemotherapy or radiotherapy). NB I can only provide therapeutic massage to my oncology patients (not the other massage styles I offer).
Specially adapted massage to support women through pregnancy (from 12 weeks onwards)
Benefits
Eases muscular aches and pains
Provides an opportunity for relaxation and time for one's self
Temporary relief for heavy limbs and oedema (fluid retention)
What to expect
Techniques are specially adapted to accommodate the physical changes that occur during pregnancy. Every effort is made to ensure the treatment is as comfortable and relaxing as possible (pillows and bolsters are used liberally to help achieve this). Particular attention is focused on the back (especially any areas of muscular tension, pain or discomfort) and the legs (helping to relieve cramps and reduce fluid retention).
Duration
45 min (half body) £50
60 min (full body) £70
90 min (long full body) £90
Miscellaneous info
I'm often asked how late into the pregnancy one can still receive a massage, and the answer is simple - right up until giving birth! I've often worked with women that were overdue and who were very pleased to be able to continue receiving massage. The only restriction in place is that it is contraindicated to provide pregnancy massage during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Seated massage that encompasses work on the upper back, shoulders, neck and scalp.
Benefits
Patient can remain fully clothed throughout the treatment if they wish as the techniques can be done through clothing or with oil depending upon personal preference.
Performed seated, so useful for those who aren't comfortable lying down
Stimulating for the scalp making it good for promoting healthy hair growth
Increases blood supply to the brain making it good for clearer thinking
What to expect
Indian head massage is a seated massage that can be performed with or without the use of massage oils. It encompasses the upper back, neck, shoulders and scalp, making it great for targeting the sites we typically hold tension. The traditional way involves the use of a non-scented massage oil (on body and scalp), whilst the adapted westernised way is often performed through light clothing and involves no oil at all. Sometimes people prefer a combination such as having oil used on the body and not the scalp.
Duration
30 min £40
Miscellaneous info
Quite a few work places are part of a scheme that includes Indian Head Massage as one of the few permitted treatments allowed. As with any treatment, I can provide a receipt - please just ask.
Fluid, flowing and very nurturing massage style from Hawaii
Benefits
Deeply relaxing and nurturing style
Provides sense of connectedness throughout the body
Very balancing and grounding
It instils a deep sense of harmony and wellbeing.
What to expect
Traditional Hawaiian massage (called Lomi Lomi) is a nurturing and deeply healing massage that incorporates lots of long flowing strokes up and down the whole body, and also involves massage work on different areas of the body simultaneously. This makes it very different in style to therapeutic or aromatherapy massage and creates a unique experience in which all parts of the body feel connected.
Approximately two-thirds of the massage time you will be lying facedown, so if this isn't a comfortable position for you this might not be the best massage style for you.
Duration
90 min £90
Miscellaneous info
Lomi Lomi massage has been handed down through Hawaiian families for generations. It incorporates inspiration from the four elements of earth, water, air and fire within the massage techniques and has it's own special philosophy called lokahi (unity of mind, body and spirit) to bring the body back into balance.
I trained with expert trainer Carrie Rowell who lives in Hawaii and learned the traditional styles from 11 different family lines on a number of the different Hawaiian islands. She now teaches worldwide allowing more and more people around the world to benefit from this wonderful massage and healing philosophy.
A fully clothed form of bodywork that involves keeping the body in varying forms of passive motion throughout the session.
Benefits
Opportunity for gentle release of muscular and emotional tension
Increased flexibility, and loosening of stiff joints or tight muscles
Deeper, easier breathing and use of breath work techniques during treatment
It can both relax and energise simultaneously
Pulsing can be especially useful for people that need to regain their confidence in their ability to move joints through their full range of movement (such as people that may have had an injury in the past which has left them with inhibition around certain movements despite the original injury now being completely healed)
What to expect
This treatment is received fully clothed (but on a massage couch not the floor, as is more commonly the case with fully-clothed bodywork therapies such as Shiatsu). Pulsing involves the body being kept in gentle motion throughout the treatment with rocking, shaking and stretches. It is a dynamic form of bodywork, which creates a rhythmical wave like motion throughout the body. It is entirely passive and your body will be moved for you throughout, although you might be asked to follow particular breathing patterns at certain times. It incorporates passive stretches and a continuous rhythmic rocking throughout the treatment which is deeply soothing, yet also energising, bringing movement to the whole body.
Duration
60 min £70
Miscellaneous info
Ideally loose fitting clothing should be worn to allow maximum movement.
Pulsing is normally referred to as a bodywork rather than a massage.
I trained in Pulsing back in 2006 with the wonderful Guy Gladstone who learnt Pulsing directly from Curtis Turchin (the man who developed it in the 1970's). Pulsing is strongly influenced by The Trager Approach, Postural Integration and Reichian Therapy. For more about the history of Pulsing please see this page on the Pulsing Association website: https://pulsing.org.uk/history-of-pulsing
The heat of the warmed bamboo sticks aids muscle relaxation and deeper muscular work.
Benefits
Heat helps to increase the relaxation of the muscles
Soothing and comforting
Increased blood circulation
Facilitates deeper style of work where needed
What to expect
The heat of the smoothly sculpted bamboo sticks helps muscles release more readily into relaxation, allowing deep work to be comfortably enjoyed. During the treatment heated bamboo sticks of varying lengths are applied using a range of techniques to knead the muscles, stretch the fascia and relax the body. One of the most characteristic techniques involves a rolling action along the muscle. It combines deep work with the soothing and comforting element of heat.
Duration
90 min £90
Miscellaneous info
Bamboo is a fascinating plant. It is a giant grass and is the fastest growing plant in the world (although apparently sea kelp is also very speedy in its growth!). Bamboo comes in many colours and varieties including black, orange, red and stripy. It has a higher weight to strength ratio than steel or concrete. Its high silica content helps give bamboo its very sturdy structure - the plant utilises silicon from the water they absorb to create the silica in their strong cell walls. For centuries bamboo extract has been used to accelerate wound healing, to aid collagen production and promote bone and tissue repair. This literature review published in The Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging in 2014 concluded a positive relationship between dietary silicon and bone regeneration.
TRE is a method to assist the body in letting go of stress and deeply held protective patterns that no longer serve you.
Benefits
Releases physical tension, increases circulation and rewires neural pathways
Helpful in the management of stress and anxiety
Helps one learn how to regulate their nervous system
Improves immune function
Increases resilience and ability to cope with stressful situations
Release of tension and stress held in the body liberates energy that can then be used for tissue repair and improving overall health - it can be considered anti-aging! Held tension and trauma ages us unnecessarily so to release it effectively has an antiaging effect
Helps us to re-connect with disconnected parts of ourselves
What to expect
TRE involves a series of 7 exercises that gently fatigue specific muscle groups to help predispose the body to go into the TRE process utilising the body's innate natural tremor/shaking mechanism. The TRE process can involve a variety of spontaneous movements (including tremoring, shaking, stretching, swaying and yawning). Following this active phase there is a time for quiet integration and rest, which involves lying still in a comfortable position for a while. During the sessions there will be an opportunity to explore self-regulation techniques (how you can monitor your own body's reactions and work within a range that is manageable for you), guidance and suggestions on how to deepen the process and a chance for tactile facilitation & input for those that would like it.
TRE is approached with a sense of fun and curiosity in which all movements, sensations & emotions are welcome, but is not concerned with the 'story' of the stress or trauma that is being released; attention is kept in the present moment.
You will be moving and stretching during TRE so it is best to wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in.
Duration
60 min £70 (1:1 sessions)
Group classes are typically 60-90 min duration and prices vary depending upon location (please see group class booking site)
Miscellaneous info
TRE is designed to be a self-help tool that, once learnt, can be used independently as needed throughout one’s life. Since this tremor/shaking mechanism is built into our natural human physiology (and that of many other mammal) almost everyone can benefit from TRE. Typically one might feel ready to do TRE by themselves after about 6 sessions, although for some it may be sooner and for others with more complex tension patterns it might be longer. Classes are generally more suitable for those looking to address general stress and tension, whilst those addressing specific traumas or with entrenched patterns are likely to find 1:1 work more suitable initially.
This useful inbuilt tremor/shaking mechanism helps downregulate our nervous system following times of stress or trauma and to bring ourselves back into a balanced state. It addresses long held tension and trauma patterns in the body from events, experiences or emotions that were too overwhelming to process at the time.
Medical Qi Gong is a form of Chinese exercise with ancient roots that involves a series of movements specifically designed to promote health and longevity.
Benefits
Improved posture, co-ordination and balance
A calmer mind and feeling more grounded
Increased strength and range of movement
Cultivation and circulation of Qi (energetic life force)
Improved blood and lymph circulation
An opportunity to slow down and be more present & connected to your body
What to expect
I teach 1:1 Medical Qi Gong in session packs of 5. You will learn the Baduanjin style of Medical Qi Gong which is also sometimes known as The 8 Brocades. During the first session pack you will learn a simple standing meditation, the basics of all 8 Baduanjin exercises (including techniques and health benefits) and the Qi Gong Salute. In subsequent session packs we can refine movements & posture, develop confidence in the routine and look at ways to progress the difficulty level of each of the 8 exercises if so desired.
All exercises are performed in standing. It is good to wear loose fitting clothing you can easily move in and flat shoes.
Duration
Each individual session is 45 mins. Each session pack contains 5 sessions and costs £125 in total.
Session Packs are valid for 3 months.
Miscellaneous info
I also teach Qi Gong classes at Thomas Calton Centre in Peckham (Southwark Adult Learning Services). It runs for 10 weeks each term.

I'm a holisitc healthcare practitioner, chartered physiotherapist, certified TRE provider and Qi Gong instructor living and working in South East London. I mainly work with people in a 1:1 capacity, but also provide a variety of group classes both in-person and online.
I enjoy learning and my educational background is extensive having partaken in continuous study for over 25 years since starting my massage and aromatherapy diplomas in 1999. The various disciplines I have studied all inform my practice and enable me to offer a well-rounded approach to the care I provide.
I have a particular interest in helping people to improve their nervous system regulation and have lots of experience working with people who experience anxiety or high levels of stress that need to deeply rest, relax and reset. This interest in nervous system regulation (and the important impact it has on our overall health and wellbeing) led me to become a certified TRE (tension and trauma releasing exercises) provider, as well as setting up specific nervous system regulation consultations to help people find a selection of ways that they can manage their own nervous system regulation.
I graduated with a first-class honours degree in physiotherapy in 2013 and later trained in Pilates with APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) and in Medical Qi Gong with ITCA (International Tai Chi Alliance). I enjoy working in my capacity as a physiotherapist to provide 1:1 Exercise & Movement sessions to those wanting a personalised and holistic approach to exercise and movement. My previous physiotherapy work has included working in an NHS Falls Prevention Team and at a special educational needs school for visually impaired children with neurological disability.
I'm also a homeopath and whilst I no longer offer homeopathy consultations, I am very proud of my homeopathic education having graduated from Centre of Homeopathic Education in 2005 following 4 years of study and then completing postgraduate training in India. The philosophy and principles of homeopathy are fundamental to how I approach health and disease.
I’m registered with CThA (Complementary Therapy Association) and HCPC (The Health and Care Professions Council) and am a member of CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy). I regularly attends lectures, webinars and workshops to learn new techniques and keep up to date with developments in natural healthcare and physiotherapy.
